Ahoy, sailors! Ready to embark on a long voyage of small but satiating hardtack biscuits? Classic Marinheiras and Marinheiras with Chia Seeds are two of the latest products launched by Pingo Doce, Portugal’s largest supermarket chain, with packaging designed by Joinconcept.
These biscuits are known to have been a snack for sailors in the past, hence the Portuguese name “Marinheiras”. We approached this nautical theme by illustrating the packaging with a ship sailing through calm sea waves. Above them, the transparent window allows the biscuits to be seen, highlighting their texture. The two fonts used were chosen to give a modern touch to a classic layout. Their placement, together with the overall bright colour, allows the consumer to quickly identify the type of biscuit they are buying.
